Shoulder Pain

Causes

The shoulder girdle is a complex anatomical structure. The shoulder joint allows for a great range of motion which predisposes it to injuries, instabilities and imbalances. Some common causes of shoulder pain may include:

  • Rotator cuff tears or tendinopathy
  • Muscular strain or weaknesses
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Subacromial impingement
  • Bursitis
  • Arthritis
  • Labral tears
  • Poor posture
  • Repetitive work involving arms/shoulder
  • Referred pain from the neck

Treatment

Osteopathic treatment can help with shoulder pain by identifying causative and contributing factors. Treatment will aim to improve joint mobility, strength and function as well as to reduce pain, occurrence and muscular strains. To help you achieve this we don't just treat the "sore spot" but also relative areas that may be contributing to your pain such as neck, shoulders, thoracics, ribcage and arm.

Treatment may include:

  • Massage
  • Stretches
  • Mobilisation
  • Manipulation
  • Dry needling
  • Cupping
  • Taping
  • Postural correction
  • Ergonomic advise
  • Rehabilitation exercises
